THE BENEFITS OF KARATE TRAINING FOR CHILDREN

The study of karate can be rewarding for children. It teaches physical and mental control. The benefits of physical development are increased flexibility, coordination and muscle tone. The mental development is shown in increased concentration and self-control. By self-control, we mean that the child learns how to prevent emotions from taking over in difficult situations.

With time parents will notice an improvement in their child’s. Their ability to Focus Attention, Self Confidence, Self-Control and positive thinking will become more apparent. Listening skills, Discipline, Respect and Good Manners will develop with regular practice.

The core of Goju Ryu Karate stresses the vital importance of a healthy mind and body necessary to lead a productive life, lighting against child obesity and avoiding children to wonder about or sit in front of a console for hours.

Academy for Karate Goju-Ryu (AKG) children's program is open to children 6 to 15 years old. This style of karate emphasizes self-discipline and self-control and helps develop confidence, coordination and strength. In beginners classes children learn basic karate techniques: punching, striking, blocking, kicking, shifting and take-downs. Regular classes focus on application, work with partner and Kata (forms).

The Children's Program also offers the opportunity to test for grading under the Syllabus of the Academy for Karate Goju-Ryu (AKG), once affiliated.
Sensei Hernâni Gabriel is a 5th degree black belt and teaches the Children's Program. Sensei Gabriel has studied karate since 1979 and has over 30 years of teaching experience in several countries with both adults and children. He has started the children's program in 1998.
